Finding Balance in the News: Embracing Positivity Amidst Negativity

I have to admit something... I had given up on reading and listening to the news. Why? Because it is mostly negative. There's always something bad being reported, whether it’s about a social issue, a political issue, or a horrible crime. For me, hearing, seeing, and reading about such negative news does nothing but make me angry and then depressed. It's draining—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. But lately, I’ve realized that staying completely uninformed isn't the answer either. There has to be a happy medium.

With negative news being broadcast all over the place, I wondered if there was any room for positive news that isn't about the latest Sci-Fi or Superhero adventure coming to movie theaters. Thankfully, there is! I've been getting a breath of fresh air with a newsletter called "Nice News." This newsletter acts as a beacon of hope, highlighting positive stories that often get overlooked and ignored by mainstream media. It's a reminder that good things are happening all around us, even if they don't always make the headlines.

It's those stories that really stay with me. Reading about medical breakthroughs that offer hope for those struggling with illness or the heartwarming efforts of young people making a difference reminds me of the incredible compassion and potential that exists in the world. These acts of generosity, big or small, from business leaders giving back to community heroes putting their neighbors first, truly inspire me. These positive news stories may not be the loudest headlines, but they leave a lasting impact, proving that even amidst challenges, there's a lot of good happening in the world.

These are the kinds of stories that need to be told more often. We need a healthy balance of news—understanding the challenges alongside the triumphs. For those who believe, God always gives us good news in the beauty of nature, acts of kindness, and human resilience. We, as humans, should strive to do the same. Reporting on the good things that are going on, even though such news may not be mainstream cool, is vital. Positive, wonderful stories inspire others, create a sense of community, and remind us of the good in the world. They can even restore faith in humanity and motivate us to create more positive change.

Negative news, while there is a place for it to keep us informed of challenges, can be overwhelming. It's important to temper it with positive news. We, as human beings, need to hear, see, and read more of the positive things happening in the world. This exposure to good news can actually boost our hope and resilience, giving us the motivation to tackle even the toughest issues.

Isaiah 52:7-8: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’ Listen, your watchmen lift their voices, together they sing for joy; for they see directly that the Lord is returning to Zion."
